Apple has purchased 3D motion tech firm PrimeSense

By | Nov 26, 2013

Apple has purchased 3D motion tech firm (Xbox Kinect-maker) PrimeSense for a reported $360m (£222m).

Last week Apple was in final discussions with the Israeli company, which was the original supplier for Microsoft’s Kinect sensor.

The BBC reports that in October 2011, Apple filed a patent for new ways to control devices without touching them. This acquisition will no doubt start a mass onslaught of rumours about Apple devices incorporating motion sense, especially the ones about Apple TV.

Earlier this year, PrimeSense showed its sensor working with a Nexus 10 tablet at a Google Developers conference. So the possibility of seeing an iPhone or iPad with motion sensing technology may be sooner than we thought.
