AMD claims to beat Intel’s Nehalem

AMD’s unreleased 45nm Denab and Propus, K10.5 architected Quad Core processors will have a bigger brother called 45nm K10.5 Rev. D Hydra and it will bring high K to 45nm SOI (Silicon Over Insulator) cores. K10.5 Rev. C is the 45nm SOI process that AMD plans to use for Deneb and Propus 45nm cores. AMD claims that Rev D cores Hydra is the chips that will take the number one crown against Nehalem form Intel.

Sources said that Hydra will have 8 native cores with 1MB L2 Cache per core and 6MB L3 Cache. Now this will be a big story as Hydra has 8 “native” cores. Hydra is expected to have higher clock than 3GHZ as AMD’s current generation high end processor is already higher than it.

AMD Hydra is expected to come in second half of 2009 where Intel Nehalem will be available earlier than AMD’s improved K10.5 rev D Hydra.
