World chooses AMD over Nvidia

The Red team (ATI), is a clear favourite following the launch of its RV770 graphics chip. A staggering 47 per cent stated their next GPU would be based on AMD’s top-of-the-range Radeon HD 4870, followed by 19 per cent who stated ATI’s mid-range Radeon HD 4850 would be their card of choice.

On the NVIDIA front, just 8 per cent of our readers opted for the fastest single chip in the world, NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 280. Followed by only 5 per cent choosing the GeForce GTX 260. Pricing, it appears, is hugely important as 13 per cent stated they’d opt instead for another NVIDIA GeForce.

Less surprising, is the fact that CrossFire and SLI options remain a niche solution for the market. Just 8 per cent of our readers showed their intent to utilize a CrossFire setup, and none have plans to run NVIDIA’s GTX 200 series in SLI. Linking cards together clearly isn’t as popular as both ATI and NVIDIA would have us believe.

Our statistics will no doubt be music to ATI’s ears, and have been reinforced with news of further NVIDIA price cuts. Judging by our members’ current opinion, the green-team may need more than just lowered prices in order to reclaim its chunk of the pie.
