MOHALI: Faisalabad Wolves were out of their depth against the quality bowling attack of Hyderabad Sunrisers. In a must-win CLT20 qualifying match at the PCA stadium on Wednesday, Wolves were required to give their best but their batsmen, barring skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, just did not have enough class or experience to take the fight to the opposition. As a result, they could muster just 127/5, a target which hardly tested the batting might of Sunrisers.
With Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv Patel giving their team a solid start (68 off 54 balls) once again, the result was a foregone conclusion. Sunrisers overhauled the none-too-formidable target at a canter to record their second successive win and join three other IPL teams in the main draw. The main round begins in Jaipur on September 21 with match between RR and MI.
Before that, the inconsequential final qualifying round will be played here after a rest day on Thursday. On Friday, the two qualifiers Otago Volts and Sunrisers will face each other while Wolves and Maroons will look for a consolation win to end their campaign.
Dhawan was once again in sublime touch. He batted with such domination that it was an apt lesson for his rivals from across the border on how to play in this format. He made 59 from 50 balls before being castled by Imran Khalid. He also claimed Biplav Samantray for a duck.
Brief scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 131/3 in 17.3 overs(Dhawan 59, Patel 23; Khalid 2/14) beat Faisalabad Wolves 127/5 ( Misbah-ul-Haq 56*, Mahmood 31, Mishra 1/13) by seven wicketsShare on Facebook
